Activities of Paraclete High School

National Honor's Society

Mr. Tony Corsaro, Moderator

The National Honor Society is the leader among organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  Thousands of schools are chartered and their chapters are following one Constitution.  National Honor Society membership is often regarded as a valid indicator the student will succeed in life and particularly in studies at the post-secondary education level.  The Honor Society member has already exhibited academic achievement, leadership, honorable and admirable character, as well as service demonstrating that the member is willing to use talents and skills for the improvement of society.  When the National Honor Society was founded in 1921, the hope of the National Association of Secondary School Principals was to create an organization that would recognize and encourage academic achievement while also developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy.  These ideals of scholarship, character, service, and leadership remain as relevant today as they were in 1921!

The Paraclete High School chapter of the National Honor Society invites all of its 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students who meet the minimum scholarship requirement of 3.50 GPA (cumulative) to apply as new members or renew their existing membership status.  In either case, a completed application from the student is evaluated in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership, and service.  A panel of Paraclete faculty is chosen each school year during the month of February, following the recording of Semester grades.  Finally, the student must also pass the Christian Service requirement for each semester.

All students who are accepted in the National Honor Society receive a membership card, and are acknowledged at the Honors Assembly at the end of February.  All Senior Class members of the Paraclete High School chapter of National Honor Society are specially recognized during the Senior Awards Ceremony and are distinguished with blue and gold chords (NHS colors).  These chords are worn proudly at the Paraclete High School graduation ceremony.
