Coach McGuire Comments CIF SS Div IV Finals

Congratulations Spirits! CIF SS Div IV Finals are in the books.
The Spirits had a very exciting day at Cerritos College on Saturday, May 20. It began with Allunzoé Jones medaling in the LJ taking 5th. He also competed in the TJ for only his third time in that event, finishing 9th in the entire Division. Aaron Cooper missed out on a LJ medal but took 8th. Both earned points for their team.

The first race of the day came with the Girls 4X100m relay, taking 4th and breaking the 50 second barrier, putting Amanda Cecil, Brianna Smith, Destiny Ramsey, and Taylor Richardson number 5 on the Paraclete Track and Field All-Time list.

History setting continued for the Boys 4X100m relay team (Allunzoé Jones, Branden Smith, Bobby Brown II, Zack Nelson), bettering the school’s record time again and taking 2nd. Although missing out of being CIF Div IV Champions in the event, they are currently the third fastest relay team in the state and earned a spot in the Masters Meet Friday, May 26. They also are the first Paraclete Boys relay team to qualify for the Masters Meet since 1987!

Brianna Smith medaled in both the 100H and 300H for the second year in a row.

Branden Smith, who returned to CIF Finals for the fourth year in a row, medaled in the 100m and 200m, earning a spot in the Masters Meet for the second year in a row (this year in the 100m).

Zack Nelson stole headlines in the Sunday edition of our local newspaper by doubling as 110H and 300H CIF Division IV Champion. In winning the 300H he qualified for the Masters Meet as an alternate. Most impressive of the 300H race, was that Zack broke a 37 year old school record; and became the first Paraclete athlete to win two individual CIF Hurdle Titles since 1988.

The Boys fell short of being on the Team Award stand by 16 points, the closet margin since the Spirits won the title in 1987. They finish the season 3rd in the entire Division IV.

As a coach who has seen a lot of track over the years, this Boys team will go down in history as one of the very best to wear the red and gold. The Girls team is maturing and will only get better. They will be challenging the Girls teams of 2008/2009 at the top of the All-Time list.

Again congratulations to everyone on having an excellent season. Good Luck to those competing Friday and may they reach their dreams of running at the State meet.

Come Celebrate the season on June 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the St Joseph’s Multipurpose building. It will be a casual event to recognize the accomplishments of the season. Individual groups will be given a flyer this week and asking them to bring desert items for the celebration.
