Academic Decathlon

MISSION STATEMENT: The purpose of the United States Academic Decathlon is to develop and provide academic competitions, curriculum, and assessment to promote learning and academic excellence through teamwork among students of all achievement levels.

Each competitive team is made up of three “Honors” (3.75 – 4.00 GPA), three “Scholastic” (3.00 – 3.74 GPA), and three “Varsity” (less than 3.00 GPA). The “focus semesters” go back two years prior to the current grade level of the contestant. Only certain classes are allowed in the calculation/formula.

There are TEN courses of study: MATHEMATICS, ECONOMICS, SCIENCE (Super Quiz), LANGUAGE & LITERATURE, SOCIAL SCIENCE; MUSIC, ART, INTERVIEW, SPEECH, AND ESSAY. The overall theme of the 2008-2009 Academic Decathlon is
“Latin America”.

Mock Trial

Mock Trial is currently practicing for the L. A. County Competition. The first round of competition is November 1st, 2007 at the Superior Court in downtown LA. We are competing against 70 schools from around the county. This will be the 8th year that we have attended this highly competitive tournament.

Practice is being held on Monday and Tuesday nights from 6:30 pm to 8 pm.

And Paraclete Alum Andy Ward (class of 93) has returned again this year as our Attorney Coach.
